Luxembourgish
Etymology
From lb gmh vlōz stream” and “raft. Cognate with de Floß raft, whence the modern lb - word for sense 2. The phonetic form is immediately equivalent to Ripuarian gmw-cfr Flüz raft, and probably due to contamination with the verb gmh vlœzen, from gem-pro *flautijaną to make flow. This verb shows High German forms with fricative (de flößen) as well as affricate (lb fléizen, Ripuarian gmw-cfr flüze), the latter of which are comparable to de beizen, heizen, etc.
