German
Etymology
de :af bald -e<id:abstract noun>
17th century, equivalent to de bald soon -e<id:abstract noun> -ness. Possibly continues de gmh belde, from de goh beldī, but these are only attested in the sense “audacity”, belonging to the related gmh - adjective gmh balt audacious, bold, which was lost by the 15th century. Therefore an independent coinage is more likely.
