German
Etymology
Variant of de Schnitzel, which used to be the dominant form before it became common in the sense of “cutlet” (to which it is now often restricted). Compare the verbs de schnippeln to snip and de schnipsen to nip off. Ultimately all these forms pertain to de schneiden to cut.
