Dutch
Etymology
Potentially attested as ruonwerde in the second half of the 9th century, attested with certainty as rawerth in 1369. Borrowed from nl fy Raard. If the oldest attestation does in fact refer to the current settlement, a derivation from a compound of nl ofs Runo a personal name and ofs werd artificial mound used for habitation is possible. If the oldest attestation does not refer to the current settlement, a derivation from nl gem-pro *hriad reed and ofs werd is possible. Compare nl Rauwerd.
