Alternative forms
be -ści łacinka
Etymology
Clearly an extended form of be -сь, although the origin of be -ці, which has not been found appended elsewhere standalone, is be 1. Possibly formed by phonological analogy of be -асці or be -осці, genitive form of be -асць or be -осць, although this is speculation.
Pronunciation
Suffix
be suffix
appended to relative/interrogative pronouns to form indefinite pronouns; some-
be -сь -не́будзь
Usage notes
Never stressed and indeclinable; the pronoun to which it attaches declines as normal, for instance be чыйго́сьці from be чы́йсьці. Also never spelt as be *-сці despite that being a homophone.
Generally more common than its ancestral counterpart be -сь, which may now be considered only a colloquial variant.
Certain words only have an indefinite form using be -не́будзь; for example, there exists be адкуль-не́будзь from somewhere, but be *адкульсьці is at least poorly attested. However, all be -сьці indefinite pronouns also have a be -не́будзь variant: be хто-не́будзь, be які-не́будзь, and so forth.
