Alternative forms
pt Badalhouce obsolete
Etymology
From pt es Badajoz, displacing the earlier doublet pt Badalhouce sometime during or around the time of the Philippine Dynasty (1581–1640). Both forms are ultimately derived from pt la Pax Augusta Pācem Augustam through either pt mxi - or pt ar بَطَلْيَوْس, meaning the Portuguese realization of ⟨j⟩ as /ʒ/ is most likely a spelling pronunciation.
