Etymology
ga Iúdach<ety:af<sga:Iudae<t:Jew>><-ach<pos:adjective>>>
From ga Iúdach, from ga sga Iudae Jew -ach adjectivega nouns suffixed with -ach, from ga la iūdaeus, from ga grc Ἰουδαῖος, from ga hbo יְהוּדִי yəhûḏî. The initial G- arose from a reinterpretation of the sound /j/ as the lenited form of /ɟ/. Early Modern Irish and Classical Gaelic have spellings in ga -dh-, which is retained in gd Iùdhach; the unlenited -d- of the modern language has been restored on the basis of the Latin word as well as English words like en Judaism and en Judaic.
