Asturian
ast:
Etymology
From ast el and ast verrón (with an archaic ortography), meaning "the male pig", the name comes from the fact that the town was originally a center for pig farming, and people from neighbouring areas would bring their sows to be impregnated by the male pigs there. A folk etymology links it to ast berrón "yeller, screamer", in reference to the screams of pigs slaughtered in the nearby slaughterhouse, the biggest in Asturias.
