Old Armenian Etymology From xcl -այxcl ք. The element xcl -այ has different origins: in Iranian borrowings it preserves the stem-vowel -a, e.g. xcl իշխանայք, xcl աշխարհայք; in Classical Syriac borrowings it reflects the Classical Syriac syc ܐ- -ā (status emphaticus), e.g. xcl խանութայք, xcl հռիտորայք, xcl պրակսաւաթայք.
