Etymology
Named after the Parisian en amateur Q455595 Charles Amar /ʃaʁl a.maʁ/ (who played it in the 1930s), probably by Savielly Tartakower, who also suggested to name it the en Ammonia Opening Q642339 due to the algebraic notation resembling mul NH₃ Q4087 for en ammonia Q4087 (compare the en Durkin Opening Q1528515/the en Durkin Attack Q1528515 also being named the en Sodium Attack Q1528515).
As a joke, the chess player Tim Harding (chess player) Tim Harding suggested that en Amar Q28913392 is an en acronym Q101244 (or rather, a en backronym Q636300 in this case) for en Absolutely mad and ridiculous.en Chess Explorations 89 978-1-85744-171-0 1996 1996-03-30 Cadogan Books London non-fiction paperback 1220987867 9493551M →LibraryThing Winter Edward
