Etymology
Probably from fi gml Jurgen, from la Geōrgius. Also compared with a Scandinavian given name (gmq-osw *Iurve). The name of the municipality developed from the name of a village, in turn from the name of a farm, in turn named an early owner (who had the aforementioned name).
