Etymology
From lb gmh spinnel, from lb goh spinnila, from lb gmw-pro *spinnilu. The -d- was inserted as a linking sound between the two sonorants, as also in cognate de Spindel, en spindle. The vocalic difference between lb Spëndel and the verb lb spannen to spin is due to the influence of following lb -i- in goh spinnila.
