From West Circassian tr ady Бэркъокъу or East Circassian tr kbd Бэркъуэкъу. The name was altered to sound Turkish (resembling the Turkish words berk and ok) in order to avoid Kemalist bans on non-Turkish names and to make it easier to pronounce.
