Yoruba
Etymology
Possibly from yo aéré gbé farmhouse, hut. Compare with Ondo yo Aghéégbé, Ọwọ, Idanre yo Aghérégbé. Multiple independent oral histories assert that the festival was exported from the kingdom of yo Ọ̀bà-Ilé. This perhaps suggests that this festival is a remnant of Ọ̀bà-Ilé cultural influence on its neighbors, before the establishment of kingdoms like yo Àkúrẹ́, yo Adó, yo Ìdànrè, and yo Oǹdó, as well as Benin influence, which reduced its influence.
