Etymology
From ro sla-pro *Kolęta personal name + sla-pro *-ina denominative suffix.
Folk etymology ascribes it as being derived from "colea-n-tină" ("there, in the mud"), as this was allegedly the answer of a spătar to Matei Basarab, who asked the former where he had defeated the Ottoman army.
