angle anglè anglė -angle
English

Etymology
en
Borrowed from en la Anglus, in turn borrowed from a en gem - source (compare ang Ængle/ang Engle Angle). Probably derived from the toponym en Angle, related to en gem-pro *anguz "narrow, tight; tapering", either indicating the "narrow" water (i.e. the en Schlei estuary), or the shape of the peninsula.
Folk etymology linking the word to en angel or any antecedents is demonstrably false.en
