Polish
Etymology
From pl sv Gustav.
A royal name in Sweden, traditionally explained (even by Gustav I Vasa himself) as pl sv göt + sv staf staff support (of the Geats, southern Swedes)". But there is no such name in Old Norse, and Gustav is more probably a Swedish rendering of pl zlw-opl - / north-west pl sla - en Gostislav, from pl sla-pro *Gostislavъ, from sla-pro *gostь guest + sla-pro *slava glory.
