thumb|Many Prociphilus xylostei species on a European fly honeysuckle (Lonicera xylosteum species), after which they were taxonomically named.
Etymology
Suffixed with mul -philus liking, loving.
mul First component unknown. Possible candidates include:
grc πρώξ dewdrop, which would make sense given their small size.
la procus infatuator, possibly relating to mating habits?
Less likely candidates are:
la prox interjection by your leave, though by nature aphids tend not to move very much, also doesn't make semantic sense with the -philus suffix.
grc πρόξ roe deer, though these aphids do not commonly interact with deer.
Also, the intermediate -i- suggests a Latin root, as an Ancient Greek root's interfix would more likely be -o-.
