In 803, the Saichō Dengyō Daishi received the mandate from the Emperor and left for China to study religion there. When he returned, he brought with him the many theories of the Tiantai/Tendai sect, and he went on to preach its doctrine in Japan, in the process establishing one of the two most influential sects during the Heian period (794-1186). Researchers have dubbed them the “two sects of Heian,” and they were Tendai and Shingon. 88 THIÊN THAI TÔNG TIANTAI SECT CÁC TÔNG PHÁI ĐẠO PHẬT THE SECTS OF BUDDHISM March 14, 2019 Đoàn Trung Còn Nguyễn Minh Tiến
