Usage notes
The name was popular mostly in Bavaria and Austria. A petform was de Nazi, which contributed to the nickname for "National Socialist" (the Nazi Party having its roots in Bavaria).
At the same time, ironically, Ignaz was popular among Jews as a loose Germanization of de Isaak. Especially outside Austro-Bavarian areas it came to be regarded as a typically Jewish name.
