Dutch
Etymology
Attested as Boerenhol in 1838-1857. Potentially derived from the plural form of nl boer farmer and nl hol lair, hole. Although the second element is often interpreted as zea nol remnant of a levee, there is no indication going by the oldest attestations that the toponym actually contains zea nol.
See also zea Boer'nol.
