Etymology
From gmw-cfr gmh kriuze, from gmw-cfr goh krūzi, from gmw-cfr la crux. The -x has nothing in particular to do with the Latin form, but is due to Ripuarian velarisation. gmw-cfr Kröx or gmw-cfr *Krüx would be expected also in central Ripuarian (cf. Colognian gmw-cfr Düx), but has somehow failed to establish itself in these dialects.
