Usage notes
The word is the standard and most common name of the month of January in Austria and South Tyrol. It is also used, though less commonly, in Switzerland and Southern Germany. The use of de Jänner stands in contrast to the native Austrian word for the month of February, de Feber, which has now been mostly replaced with de Februar even in Austria.
German–language speakers who do not have contact with speakers from the above areas will likely not know, and hence not understand, this form of the word.
