ko -으옵- after other consonants, before consonants
Etymology
From ko okm - -ᅀᆞᇦ- -zòW◌́- object-honoring suffix, from ko oko 白 *SOLPO-. The expected form after consonants is ko -습-, cf. ko -소 and ko -습니다, but in contemporary Korean an epenthetical vowel was introduced instead to produce ko -으옵.
Pronunciation
Suffix
ko very _ formal or dated A highly polite deferential suffix.
ko 하-오-니 -
ko 다름-이 아니-오-라 -
ko 대자대비 세존-께 귀의-하-옵-고 지극정성-으로 발원-하-나이다. I turn towards the ever-compassionate World-Honored One [the Buddha], and with utmost devotion I utter my prayer.
Usage notes
The ko ㅂ is lost before the epenthetical vowel ko -으-, which itself is elided. This can make it seem as if the ko -오- or ko -으오 combines to consonant-initial suffixes:
ko 하- y -으옵- -으니 하오니
ko 아니- y -으옵- -으라 아니오라
