Etymology
From de desertieren -ation, formed by wrong analogy with other Latinate verbs in de -ieren which form a corresponding noun in de -ation, such as de deklinieren (from la declino declinare) → de Deklination (from la declinatio), and possibly in part by confusion with the similar-sounding de Dissertation. The proper Latinate form is de Desertion.
