äror åror aror
English
Etymology
en sd اروهڙ āroṛ.
The ultimate origin is uncertain. One traditional explanation derives the name from en fa رود rūd river, referring to the city's position on the Indus. The Sindhi Language Authority's dictionary gives a chain involving ar الرود al-Rūd and ar الرور al-Rūr, with Sindhi forms such as Aror and Alor.Online Sindhi Dictionaries, s.v. sd اروڙ.
The name has also been identified with sa रोरुक Roruka, the capital of Sauvīra mentioned in early Buddhist literature. Lambrick notes the variant Roruva, while also cautioning that more than one ancient place called Roruka may have become confused in the literary tradition.H. T. Lambrick (1996), Sindh Before the Muslim Conquest, p. 71.
