Dutch
Etymology
First attested as copus de hunen in 1313. Etymology nl unknown. It is unclear whether gem-pro *hûn- brown, dark, muddy is present in the toponym. A derivation from odt Huno a personal name is unlikely. Proposed derivations from the tribal name of the Hûnni or the term nl hun giant are even more unlikely. Compare nl Hunnerberg.
