Etymology 2
All forms are ultimately from hi sa -अक:
The oblique singular probably hi inc-apa -अहिं 1 -ahiṃ, from hi pra -𑀅𑀁𑀲𑀺, from hi sa -अस्मिन्, the pronominal locative singular ending (cf. sa अस्मिन्, sa तस्मिन्, etc). The nasality was lost due to interference from the alternative inc-apa -अए -aĕ/-ai ending, from pra -𑀅𑀕𑁂, ultimately from sa -अ + sa -के, the locative singular of sa -क. That this ending is continues the pronominal locative singular ending is not beyond doubt, because normally the oblique case is based on the genitive. Alternatively, this ending is the result of a crossing of the above two sources, inc-apa -अहु -ahu genitive singular (from sa -अस्य1), and inc-apa -एं -ĕṃ/-iṃ instrumental singular (from sa -एन).
The vocative singular hi inc-apa -अय -aya 1, from hi pra -𑀅𑀕, from hi sa -अक m, the vocative singular.
The direct plural hi inc-apa -अय -aya 1, from hi pra -𑀅𑀕𑀸, from hi sa -अकाः m, the nominative plural.
The oblique plural Sanskrit sa -अकानाम् gave pra -𑀅𑀕𑀸𑀡𑀸𑀁, which developed into hi -ओं. For adjectives, the ending was affected by haplological shortening early on resulting in pra -𑀅𑀕𑀸(𑀡𑀸𑀁), later hi inc-apa -अय -aya and finally hi -ए. The oblique vocative had similar haplology. Compare hi -ई. 5-6
