Dutch
Etymology
Potentially attested as de bisde in 1129, attested with certainty as in beseth in 1224. Etymology nl 1. The (potential) oldest attestation seems to indicate a derivation from nl odt bies bulrush, Scirpus with collectivising suffix odt *-iþi. However, this derivation clashes with younger attestations. Compare nl Beesel, nl Bisselt and nl Lage Bijssel.
