hit ine-ana-pro *-ónts, from hit ine-pro *-onts.
Suffix
hit suffix -an-za -anza55-56
suffix forming participles
suffix forming possessive denominal adjectives
animatizing-suffix
suffix used to form the names of seasons with an "individualizing" function
Usage notes
When suffixed to the names of seasons, it has an "individualizing" function. For instance, compare hit 𒄩𒈨𒌍𒄩𒀭 ḫa-meš-ḫa-an ḫamešḫan spring-time (in general) acc.sg. to hit 𒄩𒈨𒌍𒄩𒀭𒍝 ḫa-meš-ḫa-an-za ḫamešḫanza the next/following spring.
The suffix was used to convert neuter nouns into animate ones. In Hittite, neuter nouns were incapable of serving as the subjects of transitive verbs. This suffix could therefore "animatize" a neuter noun should a Hittite speaker have wished to use such a noun as the subject of a transitive verb.-ant- 184-185
