Latin
Etymology
la. Most often connected with la gem - roots, e.g. la gem-pro *aistāną to respect, gem-pro *aistaz kiln (the first two perhaps through la got -, the latter perhaps with a shift to "grain drying room") or gem-pro *austrą east (the latter is phonetically difficult to reconcile).
Another theory links it with a la bat - name, perhaps related to lv Aistere, a village located in modern Latvia (perhaps deriving from a word meaning "field, land").Eesti - [KNR Eesti kohanimeraamat]Balode, Laimute.
