Etymology
osc :from <alt:*pompto-><ety:from<osc:<alt:*ponto-><ety:inh<itc-pro:*kʷenktos>>>> :influence *pompe 1
From earlier osc *pompto-, itself from osc *ponto- (whence osc 𐌐𐌞𐌍𐌕𐌉𐌉𐌔), ultimately from osc itc-pro *kʷenktos. The term was probably reshaped from osc *ponto- under the influence of the ordinal osc *pompe. The word might have alos undergone the deletion of the second osc *p, though it is also possible it was merely omitted orthographically, whereas it was left present in osc Πομπτιες.220
