Etymology
First attested as opt diesdonck in 1440. Derived from nl achterste rearmost and a compound toponym composed of an unclear first element (perhaps related to dialectal nl dies fog, mist) and nl donk sandy hill protruding above a swamp. The element nl achterste was added to distinguish the settlement from nl Voorste Diesdonk.
