Dutch
Etymology
First attested as De Galhoek in 1851-1855. nl fy Galhoeke, of nl 1 etymology. The toponym may be a compound of a hydronym, fy galge gallows or fy gagel bog myrtle, Mirica gale and fy hoeke corner, although none of the proposed compounds can be confirmed due to a paucity of old attestations.
