Quotes about Dave Baksh
Sum 41’s brand of pop-punk leans more heavily on metal and hardcore influences than the majority of their peers, and it’s a take on the genre that’s won them many fans outside of the pop-punk scene. A big part of the band’s unique take on things is lead guitarist Dave ‘Brownsound’ Baksh, who’s currently in his second stint with Sum 41, having left in 2006 before rejoining for 2016’s sixth LP, 13 Voices. An accomplished player who takes the flare of heavy metal and applies it to Sum 41’s more streamlined sound, Baksh is a modern rock heavyweight.
Jake Richardson of Loudwire (May 3, 2022)
Never underestimate a punk or pop-punk guitarist, because some of them have chops far beyond the perceived boundaries of punk. The simplicity of pop-punk is part of the reason the genre blew up in the ‘90s and 2000s, but one of pop-punk’s biggest bands had a legit metal shredder in their arsenal. Sum 41’s Dave ‘Brownsound’ Baksh is well-known for his solo in “In Too Deep,” but it’s on songs like “The Bitter End” where his thrash-inspired shredding really rips.
