Quotes
It had even been the feeling of that House—indeed, it was a feeling common to mankind in general—that, although the sin in both cases was the same, the effect of adultery on the part of the husband was very different from that of adultery on the part of the wife. It was possible for a wife to pardon a husband who had committed adultery; but it was hardly possible for a husband ever really to pardon the adultery of a wife, and therefore it was that in their practice in that House their Lordships had always made a great distinction between the two cases.
