Helmut Koester

Helmut Koester (born 18 December, 1926, Hamburg – 1 January 2016) is a German-born American scholar of the New Testament and early Christianity. Quotes This book is dedicated to the memory of my teacher Rudolf Bultmann. He encouraged me more than thirty years ago to deal more intensively with the extra-canonical writings from the early Christian period. His unwavering insistence upon the consistent application of the historical-critical method and his emphasis upon the investigation of early Christian literature in the context of the history of religions must remain basic commitments of New Testament scholarship.
