Quotes
The dominant concepts of sociology seem singularly inadequate for a general value system acceptable today. Social order and functional analysis point to precisely the opposite values from those that many younger sociologists wish to realize . . . In response they have proposed more emphasis on other concepts . . . : conflict, violence, power and revolution. But . . . these concepts are also inadequate valuative bases: they deal with means, not ends. To favor revolution and oppose power is a temporary stance at best, for one is driven to ask: Revolution for what?
