Quotes
I started in the industry from childhood, booking my first job off of a headshot when I was three. It was a photoshoot, and I didn’t like the photographer very much, so it didn’t go great lol! Due to that, my mom thought maybe I wasn’t interested and let it rest for some years. My older sister was also in the industry at the time, and I was able to be on set with her for one of her commercials. I saw how much fun she was having and all of the cool things she got to do on top of just having a blast on the set myself. Everyone was so nice and let me run around and have a good time, too! After that, I told my mom that I wanted to give it a shot.
My advice for those trying to break into the industry is to remain humble, work hard, and have faith. Humility will keep you kind and give you the ability to grow and learn from others. Working hard will grow your craft as well as yourself as a person. And having faith will keep you during the times that you want to give up.
Playing Rachel has brought my attention to the perfectionist in me. I exercise that trait a lot differently than she does, and to be honest I thought that I had let that part of me go a while back before I ever played her. And I give myself credit for the self-work I did prior to playing Rachel, but I definitely noticed where the perfectionist trait had slid into some other areas of my life. But, I think season one Rachel definitely reminds me that I never want to get so wrapped up in perfectionism that I’m emotionally miserable and physically unhealthy. I want to live my life freely, looking at mistakes as necessary and healthy lessons that lead to the most beautiful destinations.
The conversation I hope it sparks is just learning how to love each other better and love each other more. There is so much negativity and hate in this world. Whether it’s people being negative and hateful toward themselves or other people or both. Everybody is going through something; everybody needs love. I hope that, with this show and seeing these stories, it is just encouraging us to love on one another more.
I had my own hidden battle with mental health prior to filming Love You Anyway, so I pulled from experience as well as having tons of conversations with writer/director Anna Matz about this character and the real-life journey she went on as a loved one of someone battling depression which inspired the story. I also watched all of the videos she sent me as well as finding some on my own.
SO many. I’d love to work with Halle Berry, Jada Pinkett Smith, or Kerry Washington. I literally have an entire list of Black actresses that I would love to work with. Already, this year, I’ve worked with a bunch of people and projects that I have to look back on photos or call sheets to make sure that it actually happened lol! So I’m looking forward to what the future holds. I’ll never get tired of drama but I would love to do some action roles, comedy roles, voice over, just so much! I look forward to what the future holds.
