Interview with Francesco Palmieri (2021)
From an interview by Francesco Palmieri, Un viaggio di quarant'anni fra i misteri, ilfoglio.it, 20 November 2021
Interviewer: What motivates a balanced person to explore the paranormal?Giovetti: Why do you recommend doing this? To enrich one's inner self and to nurture a less materialistic outlook, while continuing to live in the everyday world but also looking beyond it. Take the topic of reincarnation, for example: in recent years, there has been a surge in studies on children's memories and in regressive hypnosis experiments. I've tried it too.
Interviewer: How did it go?Giovetti: About three or four years ago, a gentleman contacted me looking for some information. We met. The first time I saw him, I had the distinct feeling that I knew him. I wanted to ask him, "Where have you been all this time?" This had never happened to me before; I'm a down-to-earth person. So, we decided to try regression therapy with a therapist in Bologna. He didn't have any particular reactions, but I found myself dressed as I had been two hundred years ago, when he was my fiancé. I was head over heels in love and happy, but he told me that, for reasons of honour, he had to go off and fight, and he left me. As soon as the therapist brought me back, I burst into tears. Then we laughed about it together.
Interviewer: You have met some important figures in parapsychology. Who made the biggest impression on you?Giovetti: Roberto Setti del Cerchio Firenze 77, a medium with extraordinary physical phenomena and the ability to convey messages. He believed in reincarnation, but he was also a practising Catholic and went to church every Sunday. Demofilo Fidani, who produced extremely rare phenomena such as direct writing, direct voice, and levitation. Above all, Gustavo Rol, the epitome of it all: I met him when he was over seventy, but he was still incredibly handsome, witty, and able to do amazing things with the greatest of ease. He was the subject of unkind remarks by Piero Angela, who, on the other hand, had a first-hand experience with him of reading books at a distance, an experience that cannot be denied. I myself experienced an astonishing phenomenon with Rol. Then there are figures whose study has enabled me to have unique experiences, such as Maria Montessori, who was also a Theosophist and travelled to India. I went there myself to write her biography: I've always wanted to experiment, not just tell stories.
Interviwer: What is the most important quality a researcher should have?Giovetti: Don't worship certainties.
