Jefferson Airplane was an American rock band formed in San Francisco, California, in 1965. One of the pioneering bands of psychedelic rock, the group defined the San Francisco Sound and was the first from the Bay Area to achieve international commercial success. They headlined the Monterey Pop Festival (1967), Woodstock (1969), Altamont Free Concert (1969), and the first Isle of Wight Festival (1968) in England. The October 1966 to February 1970 lineup of Jefferson Airplane, consisting of Marty Balin (vocals), Paul Kantner (guitar, vocals), Grace Slick (vocals, keyboards), Jorma Kaukonen (lead guitar, vocals), Jack Casady (bass), and Spencer Dryden (drums), was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.
Song lyrics
One pill makes you larger,And one pill makes you small. And the ones that mother gives youDon't do anything at all.Go ask AliceWhen she's ten feet tall.
"White Rabbit", from Surrealistic Pillow., written by Grace Slick (1967)
When logic and proportionHave fallen sloppy dead,And the White Knight is talking backwards,And the Red Queen's off with her head,Remember what the dormouse said:Feed your head.Feed your head.
"White Rabbit"
One generation got old One generation got soul This generation go no destination to hold Pick up the cry
“Volunteers,” from Volunteers (1969), as quoted by Jordan Blum of Loudwire
Quotes about Jefferson Airplane
San Franciscan band Jefferson Airplane soared as the soundtrack to America's late-sixties counterculture, with its psychedelia, pot, and anti-Vietnam War, anti-establishment protest. [...] That sound − a folk-garage acid mix − and indeed the band's whole persona [as well] − were infused with a potent cocktail of marijuana, LSD, cocaine, and amphetamines.
