Quotes Last year didn’t change me entirely. I always self-evaluate and think about my life. I was happy to stay in one place for more than six months because I’d been travelling around the world for the last four years, having never been in the same city for longer than two months. So, not being on the move was great for me. The crazy thing is that my dad’s funny. He’s, like, a funny guy. That’s his default mode. When we were young, the only time I got to speak to adults and have them hear me out was by being funny. I’d tell my parents a crazy, funny story, and then when one of their friends visited, they’d ask me to repeat it for their entertainment. So, from an early age, I understood what comedy means in a space. I was a very athletic guy in school, and when we got hammered by another team, I was the guy who’d make jokes and lift peoples’ spirits. I already knew the mechanics of comedy. It’s a discipline. Many people are funny, but to be good at stand-up, you have to understand why something is funny. You also need to be able to do it repeatedly. A person can be considered funny by their close circles but put him or her in front of an audience of 30 and the outcome might be different.
