Tyrone Appollis

Tyrone Appollis is a South African artist and poet. Quotes I consider political and social reconciliation to be an integral part of art. A cross-cultural dialogue, personal therapy and as communication to God. All my compositions are, in one way or another, autobiographical. I portray an array of continuous movement, animating featureless townships with colourful shacks and folk on the streets dancing, vending, making music and occasionally fighting. Who is Tyrone Appollis, n.d My New Immediacy is right here at my feet. I’m still obsessed with South Africa and think it will so remain. I can’t think of any other place than home that has given me so much victory, tribulation and urgency. And I am extremely grateful for the spirit of our local and international giant artists in no order of importance: Sekoto and Skotnes, the hectic Dumile Feni and Jackson Hlungwani, whom I salute wholeheartedly.
