Aurore Mutesi Kayiranga

Aurore Mutesi Kayiranga (born 1993 in Bujumbura) is a Rwandan model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Rwanda 2012. She was crowned Miss Rwanda 2012, Miss University Africa Rwanda 2012, Miss Heritage Rwanda 2012, Miss Fespam Panafrica 2013, and Miss Supranational Rwanda 2014. The youngest of four children of Ladislas Kayibanda and Olive Mukazera, Mutesi was born into a Rwandan family living in exile in Burundi before the family returned and settled in Kigali. She attended Petit Prince nursery school and Kimisange Primary School in the capital, then continued her secondary education at St Joseph's in Nyamirambo and ETO Muhima, where she earned a bachelor's degree in construction — an unusual academic path for a future beauty queen. She went on to enroll at the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (now part of the University of Rwanda), though she later left to continue her studies in Turkey before eventually relocating to the United States. Representing Southern Province and hailing from Nyanza District, Mutesi was crowned Miss Rwanda 2012 on September 1, 2012, at Gikondo Expo Grounds in Kigali, succeeding Grace Bahati and edging out first runner-up Natacha Uwamahoro and second runner-up Ariane Murerwa among 14 finalists. Her reign made history: she became the first Rwandan delegate sent to compete at Miss World, traveling to Indonesia in 2013, and the following year she represented Rwanda at Miss Supranational in Poland. She also added the Miss FESPAM title at the 2013 Pan-African Music Festival in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, and remains widely remembered in Rwanda — some have called her "the Miss of All Times" — for how visibly she carried the crown during her year-long reign.
