Quotes
Q. What is the most pressing issue facing women and or other gender minorities on death row? And what immediate changes? Would you recommend to address the issue?A. I think that the most pressing issue is the failure of the courts to recognize gender bias. And to make clear that defense attorneys have an obligation to provide gender sensitive legal representation, and that prosecutors cannot be permitted to inject gender bias and use gender stereotypes in capital trials of women. And that if they do, the courts will overturn women’s convictions and death sentences. If there were that willingness on the part of the courts, then we wouldn’t see this kind of gender bias at play.
