Lyle Saxon (September 4, 1891 – April 9, 1946) was an American writer and journalist who reported for The Times-Picayune in New Orleans, Louisiana. Quotes As one sails southward from New Orleans, he traverses one curving bayou after another, bayous which widen into lakes and which close again into other bayous. At last this land of reeds and water is left behind, and Barataria Bay stretches out to the far horizon; one can smell the sea. The sky is an inverted bowl of gold and blue, and one can scarcely say where water ends and sky begins. Still the boat goes on, ever southward through the golden light, and at last a bright archipelago appears — low-lying islands, with masses of green trees and strips of shining sand. Beyond the islands one can see the blue waters of the Mexican Gulf; and one can hear the rustling of the palm-trees, and the pounding of the surf.
