Toby Booth

Toby Booth (born 6 February 1970) is an English rugby union coach, most recently head coach at Ospreys in the United Rugby Championship. Quotes Common sense must prevail. Why are we trying to stop people reaching their full potential? If Wales don’t think they want him and Scotland do and he wants to play international rugby, we’ll back that decision. The IRB will decide but we try and make players the best player they can be and the pinnacle for every player is playing international rugby. He cares about it a lot and he’s very passionate about it – that’s what drives people to excel. This is about Steve trying to be an international rugby player. He just wants to play AT the best level he can. It’s not a choice he’s come to easily but one country’s shown an interest and another hasn’t. Booth seeks sensible approach, January 17 2012 I thought that was one of the most entertaining games of rugby I've seen for a while - irrespective of the result, which is obviously everything. I'm disappointed we lost but I was very encouraged by our ambition - and we played with the ball in hand. We made 13 changes; I wanted to answer a few questions on the depth of our squad, and we have shown we have good strength in depth. I think collectively it shows what a good place London Irish is at the moment. Hanks delighted by Shaw show, November 08 2009 He's a guy who's kept battling and not let his performances dip. I know he's not a young player, far from it, and he'll be the first to hate me for saying it. But he is a great advert for those young players about resilience and never losing faith in what you're doing and leading from the front whatever the circumstance you find yourself in. We have got a programme that wants to develop the person, develop the player to maximise their talent and to go as far as they can, so from that point of view it is a great advert of what we are doing here. From that point of view it is the biggest compliment. He has been one of our form players - he has performed exceptionally well. He has been around the block and he understands it. Our job is to try and get Nicky back there. We have had this situation before. Adam Beard, George North, Gareth Anscombe, it's part and parcel. This is the hardest period of my coaching career without a doubt, in relation to opposition, in relation to off-field challenges, in relation to unknowns and uncertainty. When I get a chance to reflect on it, I am sure there will be some good learnings. Hopefully I can make a note of them and not have to learn them again. But that is the beauty of coaching, that's why we do what we do, it's not straightforward and you have to find a way.
