thumb|Dario Amodei in 2023 Dario Amodei (born 1983) is an American artificial intelligence (AI) researcher and entrepreneur. In 2021, he and his sister Daniela Amodei co-founded Anthropic, the company behind the large language model series Claude. Before that, he was the vice president of research at OpenAI. Quotes Anthropic actually has been the most lean forward of all the AI companies in working with the U.S. government and working with the U.S. military. We were the first company to, you know, put our models on the classified cloud. We were the first company to make custom models for national security purposes. We're deployed across the intelligence community and military for applications like cyber, you know, combat support operations, various things like this. And, you know, the reason we've done this is, you know, I-- I believe that we have to defend our country. I believe we have to defend our country from autocratic adversaries like China and like Russia. And so we've been-- we've been very, you know, we've been very lean forward. We have a substantial, you know, public sec team-- public sector team. From an interview by Jo Ling Kent, Read the full transcript of our interview with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, CBS News, 28 February 2026. Se lasciata senza controllo, potrebbe superare la nostra capacità di comprendere e controllare questi sistemi, e pertanto deve essere perseguita con estrema cautela, se mai lo si dovesse fare. If left unchecked, it could exceed our ability to understand and control these systems, and therefore must be pursued with extreme caution, if at all. Quoted in Anthropic, l'appello di Dario Amodei: "Dobbiamo rallentare il ritmo di sviluppo dei modelli di IA", LA 7, 12 September 2026 (in Italian). Jo Ling Kent, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei: "For too long the industry lied" about AI risks, CBS News, September 14, 2026 I won't lie to you – there are real dangers. And I think for too long the industry lied to people about the fact that this technology had risks. Whenever anyone builds an AI model, there's a third-party evaluator who can verify whether that company is following the safety practices that they're committed to – it's like a food inspector. The AI kill switch could be a good idea. But I don't think banning it, completely banning it, is the right approach. One, the idea that we would never get the incredible benefits, never get the medical cures, that doesn't sit right with me. Second, this technology will be built in other countries, including authoritarian countries. If we build in the right way, I think the probability of something bad happening is very low. If we build in the wrong way, the probability of something bad happening is very high.
