Quotes
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s election transcends party affiliations. If it were to be based on party affiliation, the APC cannot win. The presidential ticket of the APC given to Tinubu is what saved the party; otherwise, it would have collapsed by now. Tinubu resuscitated the APC. If you go to some places, you will hear people say ‘I am not APC, I only do Tinubu’. Do you know why? It is because they see that Tinubu has mentored people and the people he mentored have mentored others. So, it is about the person.
Leke interview response to the question 'Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate against your party’s candidate?
Anything concerning Tinubu is not an anti-party movement because the APC alone cannot make him win the election. Me joining hands with the APC means victory for Tinubu is total starting from this constituency because people know I don’t tell lies. For Tinubu’s campaign, I have bought 10 highlander SUVs, one for each of the coordinators in the nine federal constituencies in Kogi. I have bought a brand new Prado SUV for the director general, I have bought 22 big Sienna buses for each of the 21 local government area coordinators in Kogi and I have built a campaign office for Tinubu in Lokoja; an edifice occupying a space of 4,300 square metres. I am the national coordinator and convener of the Asiwaju Confluence Campaign Organisation (ACCO23). When you get to the office of the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) in Abuja, you will see the fence protection I did there. When Asiwaju came there and saw it, he asked, who’s doing this work? Faleke and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila were also surprised when they saw it.
Leke interview response to the question 'Don’t you think your action amounts to anti-party activity?'
No. We have 360 members of the House of Representatives, so it is verifiable. Yes, a fraction of the funds come from the Federal Government, but a chunk of it comes from my personal purse. By the way, I have been doing humanitarian services before I joined politics. The projects I have done, both completed and ongoing are too numerous to count. When you look at it from the human angle, you can see the widows empowerment we are doing yearly; and you can see the WASSCE fees that we are paying yearly. I equipped all the General Hospitals in Yagba Federal Constituency; I provided furniture for all the schools in the constituency too. I also used personal funds to rehabilitate the road from Ilu-Hagba. Otherwise, it would become impassable by now. When the Federal Government saw my effort (on the roads), the government supplied us with asphalt that would cover two kilometres of the road. Now, we are going to get additional eight kilometres. That is how we are planning to do it; making haste slowly, till we get to Egbe, our border town with Kwara State.
Leke interview response to the question 'You are doing many empowerment projects, like building roads, bridges and culverts, as well as paying WAEC fees for your constituents. Do the funds come from the Federal Government?
No; I am supporting someone else to become the next governor. By the grace of God, the next governor of Kogi State will be an Okun man. My mission is to make our people understand the true meaning of politics. Being in the House of Representatives does not mean that I have less capacity than a member of the upper legislative chamber. A lot of people wanted me to go to Senate this time because they want me to replicate what I am doing in Yagba in a larger constituency. But, I chose to go back to the House of Representatives because it is not yet time; God’s time is the best. When the time is ripe, I will go to the Senate. I will aspire for the governorship of Kogi State too when the time comes.
Leke interview response to the question 'Are you doing all of these because you also want to contest for the Kogi State governorship?'
