thumb| John Eliot (c. 1604 – 21 May 1690) was a Puritan missionary to Native Americans who some called "the apostle to the Indians", and the founder of Roxbury Latin School in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1645. In 1660 he completed the enormous task of translating the Eliot Indian Bible into the Massachusett language, producing more than two thousand completed copies. Quotes In our first war with the Indians, God pleased to show us the vanity of our military skill, in managing our arms, after the European mode. Now we are glad to learn the skulking way of war. And what God's end is, in teaching us such a way of discipline, I know not. Letter to Robert Boyle (23 October 1677), in Genealogy of the Descendants of John Eliot, new ed. (New Haven, CT: The Tuttle, Morehouse & Taylor Press, 1905) p. 242 External links
